Legal Aid Alberta is seeking to fill a full-time, temporary (18-Month) Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) in our downtown Edmonton office. This position will appeal to an individual with a broad range of experience in core HR disciplines such as employee & labour relations, recruitment & selection, performance management, attendance and disability management, employee engagement, work force planning, employee and leadership development, policy development and interpretation, organizational effectiveness and health and safety.
To ensure effectiveness in this role, the HRBP is expected to establish and sustain productive working relationships with leadership teams, employees, and Union Representatives within their assigned client areas to provide proactive human resource guidance, coaching and support.
This position is a hybrid role with the requirement to be in office 3 days per week.

**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, some of the key responsibilities include:
Labour & Employee Relations
- Provide day-to-day consultation, guidance and support to business leaders on a variety of employee relations issues (attendance management, performance planning/management, progressive corrective action, investigations, terminations, and situational coaching pertaining to employee growth & development or performance deficiencies and challenges).
- Provide proactive performance coaching and guidance to leaders and employees to resolve or diffuse interpersonal conflicts and/or improve the effectiveness of working relationships amongst client groups.
- Establish and maintain productive working relationships with Union representatives to foster open communication and resolution of any disputes or grievances that may arise.
- Identify opportunities and work collaboratively with leaders and employees to implement action plans to improve workplace effectiveness and enhance employee engagement.
- Lead all workplace related investigations including but not limited to OHS incidents resulting in an injury and formal complaints.
- Lead all preparatory work for and coordinates/participates in grievance meetings
- Provide backup support and coverage in the management of WCB/short term/long term disability leaves including graduated return to work planning and accommodations
Recruitment, Selection, & Compensation
- Provide backup support and coverage of full cycle external recruitment activities
- Oversee internal recruitment activities including processing all job and compensation changes in Dayforce resulting from internal movement such as secondments, acting assignments, and promotions.
- Work with business leaders in the creation of new or the maintenance of existing job descriptions.
- Complete job evaluations of newly created job descriptions to recommend appropriate salary range assignment.
Data & Analytics
- Prepare/review quarterly reporting and analyze key metrics, dashboards, and other reports to determine organizational trends, patterns and talent information that is critical to supporting effective business decision-making.
- Prepare and present regular findings, insights, and recommendations to leadership to support the HR and LAA leadership team.
HR Operations/Services
- Participate and/or lead the research, development, and implementation of new or revised Human Resources policies for LAA.
- Identify and recommend changes to LAA’s policies, programs, or procedures to improve organizational effectiveness and/or achieve business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to streamline, automate and simplify HR processes to enhance the employee and manager experience.
- Engage, mentor, and coach other members of the Human Resources team on HR best practices and employee and labour relation matters.
Projects and Initiatives
