**Job Overview**:
The Grand Council “IRS Cultural Coordinator” supports the Indian Residential Health Support Program (IRSHSP, Wiisokotatiwin) to implement and further the mandate to support all the Indian Residential School Survivors and their families referred to as Intergenerational survivors of the twenty-eight communities of Treaty #3. The IRS Cultural Coordinator provides traditional teachings and ceremonies by coordinating access to Elders and Traditional people to meet the needs of the Indian Residential School Survivors.. The IRS Cultural Coordinator will work to promote cultural awareness, safety and competency within Treaty#3 while promoting healing and wellness.
**Responsibilities**:
- Serve as a Cultural resource person for the IRS program, to promote the learning of culture and heritage and to assist IRS survivors in linking with local elders and healers or mainstream services to address life issues of their past, present and future.
- Will be aware of, facilitate and plan cultural events/ceremonies at the request of IRS survivors.
- Establish working relationships with external resources of the IRS program which includes Treaty#3 communities and agencies and organizations.
- Create a positive rapport with families, elders and communities of the Treaty#3 Nation.
- Liaise with other individuals, groups and organizations as required to facilitate healing on behalf of IRS survivors.
- Manage policy development and resolution process with IRS.
- During an emergency epidemic/pandemic situation, job duties will be reviewed and reassigned accordingly.
- All other related duties assigned by your supervisor and the Leadership of GCT#3
**Qualifications**:
Post-secondary diploma in the area of Native Studies with experience in sharing Native culture, tradition, and practices and be aware of mainstream services in the area.
OR Life learning experiences and practice of sharing Native culture, tradition and practices
- Must have good verbal, listening and written skills
- Must possess good skills in leadership and teamwork;
- Must be dedicated, responsible and be able to follow and provide instructions;
- Must be able to take initiative and maintain confidentiality;
- Must be strong minded and non-judgmental,
**Skills/Abilities**:
- Excellent case and file management skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships with GCT3 staff, Treaty #3 Communities, and the general public.
- Ability to speak and understand Anishinaabemowin is an asset.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads, set priorities, meet deadlines, work under pressure, and adjust to constant change.
- Proficient use of various office based software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point) and online meeting software (Zoom, Blue Jeans, Microsoft team).
- Strong customer service orientation.
**Working Conditions**:
- Must have valid driver’s license (Equivalent to Class G), in good standing and a reliable vehicle.
- Must have a clear criminal records/vulnerable sector check is required.
- Must be able to travel on short notice.
- Travel may be required within Kenora and surrounding areas.
- Busy office setting and Repetitive work.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Interacts with public at large.
- Ability to conduct and attend presentations.
- Overtime may be required.
