Proactively the District Manager takes steps to ensure all staff focuses on delivering a safe and superior shopping experience for the customer.Travel (including overnight travel) is required regularly. The region of Food Basics Stores this position will oversee will be within a designated area in Ontario.SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:Execute Metro’s corporate responsibility plan by enhancing the environmental performance of our operations, especially around waste diversion, and to also strengthen Metro’s actions to support an equitable, diverse and inclusive work environment that reflects the customers we serve.Develop the operating plan and goals for each store within the district for customer focus, sales, profits, controllable expenses, labor and shrinkDefine the tactics necessary to meet the operating plan and goals and maximize sales and profit by storeSupport Organizational priorities and minimize risk to the company by ensuring adherence to Health & Safety regulations, compliance with Loss Prevention, Quality Assurance, Risk Management requirements, Company Policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining agreementsHire, train, manage and develop a staff of store management who are competent in technical proficiency capable of attaining or exceeding sales and profit goals set for the stores within the districtEnsure optimum customer satisfaction levels and standards, and ensure effective resolutions to customer inquiries or complaintsConduct reviews with the Store Manager on controls over inventory and controllable expenses to assure desired profit levels.  Conduct reviews of all financial reporting and P&L information. Monitor and evaluate actual operating results versus the budget for each store and the departments within each store.  Work with the Store Manager to correct significant variances from the budgetVisit each store and meet with store management on a regular basis to review operations, productivity, labour, inventory and other operational items. Ensure each store portrays a customer focused environmentEnsure the Store Manager executes merchandising and marketing plans at the store level that are consistent with district, banner and department goals and objectives.  Work directly with Store Managers and Department Managers, Field Specialists and Distribution Centre staff to ensure adequate on-hand inventory levels, especially of advertised itemsResponsible for the formal performance management process for store management including compensation, performance feedback, coaching and mentoringOversee the Labour Relations function which includes coaching and advising Store Managers in their dealings with various Union Representatives and employees during the grievance resolution processQUALIFICATIONS:University degree or College diplomaMinimum of 10 years relevant experience including 3 – 5 years in Store ManagementStrong knowledge of collective agreements and Labour Relations, Company policies and procedures, and relevant legislationMust have a valid Ontario driver’s license - ability to be away from home occasionally overnight and for longer than normal workdayExcellent leadership skillsStrong interpersonal skillsExcellent communication skills both verbal and writtenFlexibility in hours of work is requiredIntermediate computer skills - working knowledge of Microsoft officeRELATIONSHIPS:Internally has regular contact with Store Managers, Assistant Managers, Department Heads, Field Merchandising and various Head Office Departments.  Externally has contact with Union Representatives, Suppliers or outside service providers, and customers.IND1The responsibilities and relationships assigned to this role may change as is necessary to achieve Metro's business objectives.METRO is committed to providing an inclusive work environment that reflects the communities we serve.
