About the Role – How you will Contribute to the Service: The Halton Regional Police Service is currently seeking one (1) motivated, reliable, and community-minded student to join our Fleet Services Team as Summer Student from May to August 2026. You’ll join a highly respected Fleet Unit that plays a vital role in supporting frontline officers—helping ensure our first responders are fully equipped, prepared, and ready to serve the community. As a Fleet Services Student, you will work closely with experienced team members and report directly to the Manager of Fleet Services, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic operational environment. This May–August summer position is ideal for a student eager to grow professionally while diving into real-world mechanical, technical, and electrical work. You’ll assist with various fleet related tasks, and contribute to the daily operations that keep our emergency vehicles mission-ready. What you will be Responsible For: The Fleet Student will be providing hands on support to the unit including shuttling vehicles for maintenance and equipment requirements, providing assistance in assessing technical, assisting in organizing inventory and regular shop maintenance requirements, vehicle equipment audits, vehicle decommissioning and other duties as assigned. What you will Bring to the Role: Education, Certifications and Qualifications: We are looking for a candidate who is enrolled in post-secondary education preferably electrical, millwright or mechanic trades, vehicle maintenance and/or related field. The candidate must be returning to their program in September 2026. Previous Experience, Knowledge and Skills: Our ideal candidate must possess strong integrity to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information. The candidate must have exceptional interpersonal skills, are organized due to various deadlines and attention to detail skills. The candidate must be able to work independently on task and take initiative with assigned projects. The ideal candidate must be able to be flexible in order to adjust to different tasks assigned and hours of work. The candidate should have some working experience in electrical repairs and/or installation, millwright, or mechanic trades and experience with automotive electrical applications. Able to use power tools for automotive maintenance and repairs. Physical capability to regularly lift objects over 50 lbs, as the position involves significant physical and labor-intensive work. A valid Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record is required, as driving vehicles is part of the role. Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational achievements, and a criminal background screen. If you are selected as the successful candidate, you must participate in a job readiness assessment (i.e. assesses the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and/or climb ladder etc.). This position is based out of our Oakville Headquarters facility which is located at the QEW and North Service Road West.  Hourly Rate: This is a paid student position starting at $20.11 per hour for a four-month term (May to August 2025) contract Working Hours: 35 hours per week: Monday – Friday. Step 2: Resume Screening — December 16, 2025 to January 3, 2026 Step 3: Applicant Notifications — January 6, 2026. Applicants will be informed of their application status. Those selected to advance to the interview stage will receive an interview invitation. Step 4: Behavioural Interviews — Week of January 12 to January 22, 2026Selected applicants will be invited to attend in-person behavioural interviews. Step 5: Pre-Employment Checks — Week of January 26, 2026Pre-employment checks will be conducted for shortlisted candidates. These checks include a Security Check, Professional Reference checks, and any additional employment verifications relevant to the specific role. Note: The Security Check appointment must be completed in person. Step 6: Decision Making — Week of February 17, 2026. All applicants will be notified of their final application status via email.
