Opening in October 2024, the 1.4-billion-dollar Arthur Child is the second largest Cancer Facility in North America and will be the leading health care facility, academic and research centre providing cancer services for Calgary and Southern Alberta. Unit 95/125 is a 49 bed unit over two floors, supporting patients that are under the care of Intensive Palliative Care /Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology teams. An amazing opportunity for the Registered Nurse to deliver state of the art patient care throughout the care continuum. The Nurse Clinician is a regulated member of the health care team who is in a leadership role. Advanced competency skills, such as epidurals, central line care and access, delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs, and radioactive iodine treatment are some examples of treatment modalities used for this patient population. To be successful you will have strong clinical thinking skills, the ability to prioritize competing demands, good communication skills and work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.

Description:

As a Nurse Clinician (NC), you will be responsible for the coordination of an interprofessional team, in the provision of quality patient (client, resident) care in order to meet the operational priorities and requirements within a clinical setting. You will use an integrative leadership approach in assisting, planning, implementing and evaluating care needs, while assuming responsibility for staff assignments, patient flow and clinical resources. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated accountability, critical thinking effective interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to function both independently and collaborative within a team. Ability to cope with change and the emotions of grief. Minimum 5 years current acute care experience. N95 mask fitting up to date. Ability to manage the job classification of heavy physical demand level as per the AHS Job Demands Summary. Charge trained and charge experience. Experience in pain management including advanced competencies such as PCA’s and Epidurals. Central Venous Catheter Competence. Competence in Connect Care Use. Well versed in the elements of CoAct.

Preferred Qualifications:

Participation/ experience in quality improvement work. Palliative experience or Palliative certificate. Experience with caring for patients undergoing radioactive iodine treatment.
