Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Unit Manager or designate, the Nurse Clinician (NC) provides effective clinical leadership and functional supervision, in addition to front-line Registered Nurse duties as outlined in the Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) Job Description. The NC is expected to promote quality patient care and team effectiveness through clinical and professional role modeling. The NC supports a respectful workplace by using effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills to promote the achievement of organizational goals and adhere to policies and procedures & fosters team/group effectiveness by modeling (building capacity, teaching, mentoring) excellent practice and interpersonal relationships. Identifies, communicates, and seeks to resolve staff issues and keeps team apprised of significant relevant events. As the Nurse Clinician, you will be responsible for staff assignments, ensuring optimal patient flow, and acting as a role model, clinical resource, and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, the Nurse Clinician takes a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Demonstrating in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment, and clinical experience will assist in providing solutions for complex healthcare issues at all levels, including patients, interprofessional teams, administrators, and policy makers. The Nurse Clinician plays a key role in providing safe, quality patient and client and family centered care.

Description:

As a Nurse Clinician (NC), you will be responsible for the coordination of an interprofessional team, in the provision of quality patient (client, resident) care in order to meet the operational priorities and requirements within a clinical setting. You will use an integrative leadership approach in assisting, planning, implementing and evaluating care needs, while assuming responsibility for staff assignments, patient flow and clinical resources. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years in the last 5 of experience working within an Inpatient Addiction and Mental Health role. Working knowledge of relevant legislation is required, including the Alberta Mental Health Act and Health Information Act. Demonstrated knowledge of mental health diagnosis, symptomology, and related treatment interventions. Working knowledge of psychotropic medications and psychopathology. Demonstrated experience in a leadership role (e.g. Charge Nurse, Nurse Educator, Professional Practice Lead, etc.). Valid certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training.

Preferred Qualifications:

Working knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health system. Skills in coaching and mentoring peers with an ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations with varying levels of acuity and a heterogeneous patient population. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work within a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals. Ability to be self-directed and exercise independent decision-making skills, problem solving, judgment and critical thinking skills.
