PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

This permanent position supports U.S. and Mexico BPC system activities performed centrally in Calgary. The ideal candidate is a Finance professional experienced in supporting SAP BPC/SAC processes or a SAP power/superuser seeking a systems-focused role.

This position involves working as part of a team committed to delivering actionable business insights on CPKC’s performance by driving improvements in finance systems processes and reports. The successful candidate will sustain data integrity including financial master data and ensure the functionality and effectiveness of finance systems. This role also delivers cross-functional system-related improvements for finance systems and reports, reporting to the Manager, Finance Systems and Reporting within the Finance Department.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Executes Finance systems processes in SAP BPC/SAC to support month-end close and annual budget and monthly forecasting activities, including ETL activities, maintaining and building reporting templates, and running system scripts.
  • Drives cross-functional initiatives with Finance business partners and Information Services to improve data transparency.
  • Provides system-related advisory and troubleshooting support, developing creative solutions including analysis of business requirements.
  • Partners with Information Services to identify root causes for Finance system errors and failures.
  • Maintains the financial master data lifecycle.
  • Correlates data sources to provide fit-for-purpose reporting and analytics.
  • Collaborates with business subject matter experts to gather business requirements, assess technology configuration, and support system testing.
  • Contributes to ensuring Finance users can effectively use available systems through guidance, workshops, and training content creation.
  • Supports system projects, integration work for the KCS acquisition, and future migration to SAP S/4 HANA and SAC reporting.
  • Seeks to expand subject matter expertise and shares knowledge with colleagues and other Finance/IS teams.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation preferred).
  • 4+ years of experience in financial or operations accounting, financial planning, or supporting Finance with SAP BPC and SAC.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with BI tools like Power BI or SAP S4 HANA.
  • Effective relationship builder with strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Experience with continual process improvements and collaborative problem solving.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, driving change with limited oversight.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Able to provide guidance and training to diverse skill levels.
