Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking a detail-oriented Recreation Consultant for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Sport and Wellness department. Reporting to the Supervisor, you will develop, coordinate, promote, implement and evaluate recreation programs and initiatives that foster a sense of community, promote physical well-being and support the diverse needs of our students, faculty and staff, enhancing the overall campus experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Promoting, planning, coordinating, and implementing day-to-day operations of various programming, including recreation leagues, tournaments, sport clubs, Corporate Challenge, and summer camps;
- Responding to inquiries by phone and email regarding recreational programming;
- Designing leagues, including creating schedules and standings;
- Managing program registration, including tracking, outreach, and assisting with updating and submitting registrations;
- Implementing mechanisms to identify recreational needs and interests, and to collect feedback on programming;
- Evaluating recreation programs, preparing reports, and creating, modifying, and updating programs according to trends, popularity, and feedback;
- Scheduling spaces and recreational equipment;
- Maintaining, tracking, and repairing recreation equipment and supplies;
- Ensuring all recreational programs comply with institutional policies and relevant safety standards to provide a safe environment for participants;
- Monitoring and updating the Recreation and Intelli websites;
- Assisting in the development, preparation, and distribution of promotional materials;
- Planning and coordinating Sport and Wellness events;
- Drafting league and tournament program guides;
- Participating in marketing and promotional initiatives and projects;
- Engaging with patrons and promoting Sport and Wellness programs and services at marketing events;
- Assisting in the hiring process for student workers;
- Providing training, support, coaching, and mentoring for student workers;
- Implementing updates to operational procedures and orientation and training materials.
You will have:
- Knowledge of a variety of recreation and sport programs, including recreation programming trends and best practices;
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with a proven commitment to customer service;
- The ability to analyze program data, generate insights, and adapt programming to meet evolving needs;
- Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;
- The ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
- The ability to take initiative and effectively manage deadlines;
- Team-building and mentoring skills;
- The ability to work and build rapport with a diverse range of clients and colleagues;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Sharepoint.
- A minimum of a post-secondary diploma in Recreation, Sport Administration, Physical Education, or a related field.
- Standard First Aid/CPR C and Oxygen Administration certification.
- A minimum of one year of experience in recreation programming, recreation event planning and coordination, or a related field.
- Experience within a post-secondary or community environment is considered an asset.
- NCCP Level 1/2 or Recreational Coach certification are considered assets.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- The ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
