Edmonton, Canada Aramco Full time

Aramco energizes the world economy.

Aramco occupies a unique position in the global energy industry. We are the world's largest producer of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), with the lowest upstream carbon intensity of any major producer.

With our significant investment in technology and infrastructure, we strive to maximize the value of the energy we produce for the world along with a commitment to enhance Aramco's value to society.

Headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and with offices around the world, we combine market discipline with a generations' spanning view of the future, born of our nine decades experience as responsible stewards of the Kingdom's vast hydrocarbon resources. This responsibility has driven us to deliver significant societal and economic benefits to not just the Kingdom, but also to a vast number of communities, economies, and countries that rely on the vital and reliable energy that we supply.

We are one of the most profitable companies in the world, as well as amongst the top five global companies by market capitalization.

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Flare & Relief Systems Engineer with extensive hands-on expertise in relief system design and flare network analysis to join our Operation Engineering Solutions Department (OESD).

OESD provides specialized and timely operations and process engineering support to all process technologies operated in both wholly-owned and affiliates' refining and chemicals operating facilities, collectively known as Saudi Aramco Global Manufacturing.

As a Flare & Relief Systems Specialist Consultant, you will be responsible for developing, updating, and reviewing relief systems and flare networks, conducting rigorous analysis and calculations, performing technical and safety evaluation of projects and opportunities, and providing expert technical advisory support to facility management and staff.

Key Responsibilities

As the successful candidate you will be required to perform the following:

  • Develop, review, and validate relief system calculations and documentation for existing and new facilities. Optimize system design to ensure safety while minimizing capital investment.
  • Conduct rigorous flare network analysis using advanced simulation software. Compare results with design basis, analyze gaps and deficiencies, and propose corrective actions.
  • Perform comprehensive technical and safety evaluations of projects and modifications using established engineering practices. Support decision-making processes for system upgrades.
  • Provide expert technical advisory support to facility management and staff on relief and flare systems, including relief device selection, installation details, and operational constraints.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure alignment of relief and flare system designs with facility objectives.
  • Validate and verify relief system calculations using established methods and industry standards. Ensure systems meet current and future operating conditions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of relief and flare system documentation, standards, and guidelines for the global manufacturing network.
  • Conduct training and coaching sessions for facility engineers and other users. Develop and update technical manuals and procedures.
Minimum Requirements

As a successful candidate you will hold a:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related specialization; an advanced degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of hands-on relief and flare systems experience in refining or gas plants, with at least 10 years focused on system design and analysis
  • Demonstrated proficiency in relief and flare system design software (Aspen HYSYS, Flarenet, SuperPro) and relevant codes/standards
  • Proven track record of applying relief and flare system design principles to ensure facility safety and compliance, with specific examples of achievements
  • Extensive knowledge of international codes and standards related to Flare and Relief Systems
  • Experience in conducting relief system studies for complex and integrated facilities
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent presentation and reporting skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Working environment

Our high-performing employees are drawn by the challenging and rewarding professional, technical and industrial opportunities we offer, and are remunerated accordingly.

At Aramco, our people work on truly world-scale projects, supported by investment in capital and technology that is second to none. And because, as a global energy company, we are faced with addressing some of the world's biggest technical, logistical and environmental challenges, we invest heavily in talent development.
