Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plumber to join our team at the City of Toronto. As a Plumber, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems, including heating, cooling, and water services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, inspect, maintain, test, and repair malfunctions to plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Liaise with customers and maintenance staff to arrange water service isolation and installation of water meters.
  • Requisition materials and equipment to complete repairs and maintenance using a computer.
  • Repair boiler fittings and related equipment, including replacing or repairing boiler tubes, plates, and high-pressure piping.
  • Assemble, install, and repair piping using threading, soldering, brazing, and welding techniques.
  • Replace or repair equipment for units such as air conditioners, refrigerators, sinks, showers, and water closets.
  • Remove, install, and realign equipment, including electrical equipment.
  • Arrange for inspections of new water and drain services and request stakeouts from public utility companies before excavating.
  • Install, maintain, and repair water services, including activating and winterizing them.
  • Utilize a variety of tools and equipment and be responsible for their maintenance.
  • Perform a variety of skilled work related to backflow preventers, backflow preventer testing, and repairs.
  • Provide direction and training to staff and oversee work of contractors to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Transport materials and equipment to job sites and operate other equipment.
Requirements
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a current Certificate of Qualification as a Plumber in accordance with the regulations enforced in the Province of Ontario.
  • Considerable experience as a Plumber, including experience in reading and interpreting drawings and specifications and overseeing work performed by contractors.
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class "G" Driver's License and qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.
  • Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Back Flow Prevention Tester License.
  • Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
  • Ability to lay out, install, maintain, and repair pipes, fixtures, etc. at any City structure, building, or site.
  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties and work in all weather conditions and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to tolerate dusty, noisy, heights, and odorous conditions.
  • Must be available to work shift/weekend/overtime/on-call duty.
