The City of Toronto is seeking a skilled Plumber to join our team. As a Plumber, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment and plumbing systems in various City and private properties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks as a Plumber, including installation, operation, and repair of mechanical equipment and plumbing systems.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, test, and repair malfunctions to heating, cooling, fresh air, sprinkler, fire protection, pumps, and plumbing systems.
  • Liaise with customers and maintenance staff to arrange water service isolation at properties.
  • Requisition materials and equipment to complete repairs and maintenance using a computer.
  • Repair boiler fittings and related equipment.
  • Replace or repair boiler tubes, plates, high-pressure piping using tools such as pipe threaders, pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, and welding equipment.
  • Assemble, install, and repair various piping by means of threading, soldering, brazing, and welding.
  • Replace or repair equipment for units such as air conditioners, refrigerators, sinks, showers, or water closets.
  • Remove, install, and realign equipment.
  • Remove and replace electrical equipment.
  • Arrange for inspections of new water and drain services and request stakeouts from public utility companies before excavating.
  • Install, maintain, and repair water services.
  • Utilize a variety of tools and equipment and be responsible for their maintenance.
  • Perform skilled work related to backflow preventers, backflow preventer testing, and repairs.
  • Provide direction and training to staff and oversee work of contractors to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Transport materials and equipment to be used on various job sites and operate other equipment.
Key Qualifications:
  1. Must possess and be able to maintain a current Certificate of Qualification as a Plumber in accordance with the regulations enforced in the Province of Ontario.
  2. Considerable experience as a Plumber.
  3. Experience in reading and interpreting drawings and specifications and in overseeing work performed by contractors.
  4. Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class "G" Driver's License and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.
  5. Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Back Flow Prevention Tester License.
Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to provide work direction and training to others.
  • Ability to lay out, install, maintain, and repair pipes, fixtures, etc. at any City structure, building, or site.
  • Must be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to this work.
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties and work in all weather conditions and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to tolerate dusty, noisy, heights, and odorous conditions.
  • Must be available to work shift/weekend/overtime/on-call duty.
