About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Policy Manager to join our team at the Province of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Public Safety and Security Division, you will play a critical role in developing and coordinating all Corporate Security Policies.

The successful candidate will work closely with multiple programs and operational divisions, providing expert and strategic policy advice that addresses complex and multi-faceted issues and supports the Department's mandate.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Policy Development: Lead the development of effective and comprehensive Cabinet Submissions, policies, and policy projects, ensuring that relevant impacts and implications are considered.
  • Policy Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of policy issues, identifying key challenges and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strong working relationships with stakeholders, including senior leaders, working committees, and other divisions.
  • Policy Implementation: Ensure that policies are implemented effectively, monitoring progress and making adjustments as needed.
  • Knowledge Management: Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of policy issues, best practices, and emerging trends.
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A related bachelor's or master's degree.
  • Several years of experience in policy analysis and law, combined with leadership experience.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to understand differing needs and perspectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify opportunities and provide sound recommendations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to facilitate and present complex information.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and delegate work under tight deadlines.
