About the Role
As a Senior Estimator at Kiewit, you will play a key role in preparing, reviewing, and presenting cost estimates for various industrial projects across Canada. In this position, you will provide leadership and guidance on project estimation, develop conceptual estimates, and conduct cost analyses. You will be responsible for supporting the development of estimates by discipline, updating historical databases, and contributing to the development of departmental procedures. You will also provide direction to other team members on specific tasks related to estimates.

Kiewit is a leading industrial contractor that offers a comprehensive range of services to the industrial sector in Canada. We have the capability to provide all major disciplines, including civil construction, steel erection, mechanical equipment installation, piping, and electrical, instrumentation, and control work. We execute our projects under various business models, including construction management, design-build, cost-plus, time and material, and traditional contracting. We are passionate about partnering with clients, suppliers, and engineers from the early stages of project development to ensure a more effective strategy.
Responsibilities
- Review client plans and specifications to fully understand the project; develop a project execution plan as the basis for estimation.
- Lead the estimation team in preparing cost estimates for projects of varying scope across Canada.
- Coordinate with discipline estimators, project planners, procurement, and proposal teams to develop a comprehensive proposal for clients.
- Perform a quantitative assessment of the scope of work in accordance with our quantity tracking system, evaluate labor, material, and equipment costs for the project.
- Validate quantities provided by discipline estimators.
- Review and evaluate supplier and subcontractor cost proposals, verify their compliance with project specifications and alignment with project strategy, and propose the selected supplier for estimation and project closure.
- Prepare a comprehensive summary of the estimate to present to the management team and obtain approval of the proposal.
- Prepare a comprehensive presentation and summary of the proposal for external clients.
- Maintain a professional and trusting relationship with clients, professionals, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or technical diploma in mechanical or electrical engineering, construction management, or equivalent experience in heavy industrial estimation.
- Approximately 8 years of relevant experience in heavy industrial estimation.
- Excellent knowledge of the Canadian construction market.
- Excellent communication skills in French; English is an asset as we have projects across Canada.
- Advanced computer skills. Knowledge of MS Office, AutoCad, and BlueBeam software is an asset.
- Experience in industrial sectors, hydroelectric, oil and gas, and mining is an asset.
