We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Technician to join our team at the Commission scolaire Central Québec / Central Québec School Board. As a key member of our educational community, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs and promoting their academic and personal growth.

About the Role

As a Special Education Technician, you will work collaboratively with our teaching team, families, and external resources to provide targeted support for students with special needs. Your expertise will be essential in designing and implementing customized learning strategies, innovating in support methods, and contributing to the creation and implementation of personalized intervention plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Teaching Team
    • Work in synergy with the teaching team to provide targeted support for students with special needs.
  • Design and Implement Customized Learning Strategies
    • Innovate in support methods and design customized learning strategies to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Contribute to Personalized Intervention Plans
    • Contribute actively, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, to the creation, development, and implementation of personalized intervention plans.
  • Monitor Student Progress
    • Monitor student progress and encourage an open, stimulating environment conducive to learning.
  • Develop and Lead Diversified Activities
    • Develop, organize, and lead diversified activities to reinforce various student competencies.
  • Provide Direct Academic Support
    • Provide direct academic support, particularly in basic skills, lessons, and homework.
  • Support Student Adaptation and Behavioral Management
    • Adopt a proactive approach to supporting students in their adaptation and behavioral management, using optimal and adapted communication techniques.
  • Provide Information and Referrals
    • Provide information on social issues and refer students and their families to specialized resources, as needed.
  • Manage Student Supervision
    • Manage the supervision of students requiring specific follow-up after sanctions and organize their school reintegration.
  • Ensure Student Safety and Support
    • Ensure the safety and support of students requiring special attention during school transportation, if necessary.
  • Document and Report
    • Rigorously document observations and interventions, keep student files up to date, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Manage Medication Administration
    • Manage the administration of medication according to medical and school guidelines, and intervene in first aid, if necessary.
  • Guide and Train Team Members
    • Guide and train new team members and supervise support staff tasks related to technical operations.
  • Additional Tasks
    • Carry out any additional tasks adapted to emerging needs.
  • Qualifications and Requirements
    • Hold a college diploma in Special Education Techniques or a diploma/certificate recognized as equivalent.
    • Be fluent in written and oral English. Knowledge of French would be an asset.
    • Have experience with students with behavioral and academic difficulties.
    • Valid first-aid certificate.
