Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Lifeguard/Instructor to join our team at the City of St. Catharines. As a Lifeguard/Instructor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of participants, preventing accidents, and responding to emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform lifeguarding and instructing duties in a safe and enjoyable environment.
  • Implement the Lifesaving Society and Department programs, demonstrating good class control and safety supervision.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Participate in water demonstrations and establish a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the facility and maintain a high level of physical fitness.
  • Respond to emergency situations, execute proper rescue techniques, and render CPR/first aid.
  • Check and maintain lifesaving equipment, reporting any deficiencies to the Head Guard.
Requirements
  • National Lifeguard certification (valid for 2 years)
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification (valid for 2 years)
  • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor certification (valid for 2 years)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (valid for 3 years)
  • HIGH FIVE The Principles of Healthy Childhood Development
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance (valid for 2 years)
  • Must be at least 15 years old
  • Experience working in aquatics
  • A professional and enthusiastic employee with a service-minded approach
Working Conditions

This is a seasonal position from September to June, working up to 24 hours per week at various City pools. The Lifeguard Wage is $21.80, and the Instructor Wage is $23.06.
