About the Opportunity

The City of St. John's is seeking a highly skilled Lifeguard Instructor to join our team at the Paul Reynolds Community Centre and the Mews Community Centre. As a Lifeguard Instructor, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our patrons while providing high-quality swim instruction and aquatic programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all aquatic and program regulations
  • Instruct swim lessons and aquatic programs, adhering to Red Cross standards and Recreation Division guidelines
  • Maintain a safe and secure aquatic environment, monitoring pool areas and responding to emergencies
  • Communicate effectively with patrons, staff, and supervisors
  • Perform administrative tasks, including submitting reports and maintaining records

Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years of age, as per Public Pool Regulations
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard award
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certificate
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with diverse groups

Working Conditions

Aquatic conditions may be hot and humid, with frequent exposure to water and potential for physical exertion. Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, are required.

Physical Requirements

Walking, standing, and lifting are necessary for extended periods, with moderate physical effort required for teaching and rescues. Ability to lift and handle equipment, as well as provide first aid, is essential.
