Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Consultant to join our team in the City of Toronto. As a key member of our Human Resources department, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our labour relations practices align with the highest standards.

About the Job

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about building strong relationships between employees, management, and union representatives. You will provide guidance on employment and human resources issues, oversee grievances and arbitrations, collect data to support negotiations, and interpret agreements, policies, and rules and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to all levels of management, staff, and unionized employees on employment and human resources issues.
  • Oversee and resolve grievances, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Collect data to support negotiations with bargaining units.
  • Interpret existing agreements, policies, procedures, and rules and regulations.
  • Provide support on attendance-related matters.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (Industrial Relations) or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Several years of directly related work experience in a union environment.
  • An LL.B designation or Masters of Industrial Relations, and experience in labour and employment law are assets.
  • A thorough understanding of employee and labour relations practices and principles and the collective bargaining process.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with, and ability to interpret, collective agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the Ontario Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and related legislation.
