The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Building Asset and Energy Management to join our team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing data-driven leadership and management of the Asset Management Department, which offers related supports and services to member housing providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management: Implement and update the Operational Plan for Asset Management Department activities, aligning with BCNPHA's Strategic Plan and other organizational activities.
  • Staff Management: Manage, coach, mentor, and guide direct reports to ensure the success of the department.
  • Asset Data Analysis: Ongoing management and analysis of asset data to inform strategic priorities, support department activities, or business areas.
  • Department Goals and Expectations: Establish department goals and expectations, procedures, and systems to optimize intake and execution of projects and initiatives across and through teams.
Energy Management:
  • Energy Efficiency Programs: Investigate, develop, and implement energy efficiency programs, securing project funding from various utility and government partners.
  • Senior Manager Development: Ensure Senior Managers are developed to provide coaching and training to staff and non-profit housing providers to identify, create business cases, secure funding for, and implement energy efficiency projects.
  • Technical Support: Ensure Senior Managers provide detailed technical support to non-profit housing providers to identify, plan, and implement energy efficiency projects, incorporating energy efficiency features into capital projects and new construction projects.
  • Funding and Partnerships: Seek funding to grow the team and secure additional funds for energy and capital projects on behalf of non-profit housing societies.
Capital Planning:
  • Asset Condition Analysis: Analyze and report on trends on asset condition and liabilities in non-profit housing portfolios to inform BCNPHA partnership programs, funding priorities, and other BCNPHA activities.
  • Capital Planning Supports: Evaluate need and demand for new or expanded BCNPHA capital planning and portfolio planning supports to non-profit housing providers.
Program and Partnership Development:
  • Strategic Partnerships: Act as a point of contact with internal and external partners on strategic issues affecting and supporting energy and asset management activities for non-profit housing societies across the province.
  • Relationship Management: Ongoing management of relationships with external partners, including all funders.
  • Partnership Programs: Ongoing oversight and management of new and existing partnership programs, such as the asbestos inventory and management program, HVAC procurement program, etc.
Capacity Building:
  • Education and Training: Oversee preparation of and delivery of presentations, educational materials, and program updates to non-profit societies and partners.
  • BCNPHA Education Curriculum: Provide leadership and contributions to BCNPHA education curriculum related to facilities, capital planning, operations and maintenance, and energy management.
  • Organizational Communications: Contribute to all organization communications and capacity building activities.
Essential Qualities and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a strategic, systems-thinking, and data-driven leader who is clearly aligned with BCNPHA's mission of providing a safe, secure, and affordable home for everyone. The candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Masters' designation in business or appropriate business field
  • Or equivalent professional experience

The candidate should have at least 5 years of management experience in a relevant and comparably complex organization, with demonstrated relationship-building skills, proven project management experience, and a combination of knowledge and experience with energy efficiency and high-performance building design.

The ideal candidate should possess exceptional communication skills, the ability to provide excellent client service, and a commitment to sustainable building design.
