The Role: Family and Youth Resource Network Specialist

This role is responsible for providing children and families with programming and services that promote child development and well-being, caregiver capacity building, and social connections and support. The Family and Youth Resource Network Specialist will connect with formal and informal partners to provide a comprehensive range of services that engage families and support healthy growth and development.

This position requires a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, to meet client needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of child development, family support, and community engagement, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all families accessing our services
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate child, family, and community activities and interventions to enhance child protective factors and reduce risk
  • Enhance family support networks, both formal and informal, for diverse populations
  • Integrate different roles, such as coach, mentor, support, advocate, resource person, and facilitator, for clients and their families
  • Enhance parental capacity by supporting and strengthening skills and knowledge in areas such as sensitive parenting, ages and stages, and positive parenting practices
  • Engage and build relationships with, and between, families, individuals, communities, schools, and other service providers
  • Enhance social connections for children, families, and the community to decrease social isolation and build resilience
  • Support children and families through crises and safety planning with families and Children's Services as required
  • Facilitate multiple parenting and child development programs, including Triple P Parenting, Circle of Security Parenting, and Zones of Regulation
  • Integrate cultural and traditional ways of meeting needs into services, including ceremony, Circle with Elders, and smudging
  • Collect and report outcomes data, including maintaining accurate electronic client records and writing reports on progress and outcomes
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a human services-related field (equivalencies will be considered)
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with children and families
  • Understanding of the child protection system and knowledge of local resources
  • Understanding of infant and adult mental health and ability to structure programming accordingly
  • Strong critical thinking, engagement, and assessment skills
  • Knowledge and experience with outcome measurement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and driver's abstract
  • Reliable vehicle for driving to meet family and client needs
  • Working knowledge of child development, ages and stages, positive parenting, parental sensitivity, systems theory, and attachment theories, grief and loss, and trauma-informed care
