Social Planner

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Social Planner at SPRC Hamilton. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in advancing our mission to promote equity, inform policy and planning decisions, and increase community engagement to improve social conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct community research on social issues relevant to our mission and community need, utilizing participatory research methods and evidence-based practices.
- Coordinate the Women's Housing Planning Collaborative (WHPC), supporting the implementation and fulfillment of the project requirements of Reaching Home: Canada's Homelessness Strategy.
- Conduct social policy analysis and research on issues related to housing, poverty, food security, and other priorities of the SPRC, utilizing basic statistical analysis methods and policy analysis techniques.
- Prepare policy briefing notes and articles, utilizing strong writing and communication skills.
- Design and conduct program evaluations, utilizing logic models and evidence-based practices.
- Respond to community inquiries for information, utilizing exceptional facilitation and interviewing skills.
- Prepare funding applications and reports, utilizing strong organizational and project management skills.
- Prepare and make public presentations on behalf of SPRC Hamilton, utilizing strong presentation and communication skills.
- Encourage the growth of relationships with community organizations, utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Provide group facilitation and coordination, utilizing strong facilitation and leadership skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field, such as social work, community development, public policy, or research.
- Knowledge of program evaluation best practices and experience conducting program evaluations and working with logic models.
- Knowledge and practical experience with community development and community-based research, particularly participatory research methods.
- Practical experience with policy analysis and knowledge of basic statistical analysis methods.
- Knowledge of social planning theory and techniques.
- Exceptional facilitation, interviewing, and presentation skills.
- General knowledge of Hamilton community and social services, including knowledge of legislation, policies, and programs.
- Knowledge of the housing shelter issues affecting women and non-binary people in Hamilton and the housing supports available to them.
- High proficiency working with Microsoft Office, virtual meeting hosting platforms, survey software, and Canva.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within structured timelines.
- Strong organizational, project management, and administrative skills.
- Experience working with volunteer committees, including persons with lived experience of poverty and marginalization.
- Ability to work well with individuals and groups from diverse communities and sectors.
- Flexibility to work outside of regular office hours when required.
