Location: 350 King Street East, Hamilton


Position Summary:

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct community research on social issues relevant to our mission and community need.
  • Serve as the Coordinator for the Women’s Housing Planning Collaborative (WHPC), supporting the implementation and fulfillment of the project requirements of Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy.
  • Conduct social policy analysis and research on issues related to housing, poverty, food security, and other priorities of the SPRC.
  • Prepare policy briefing notes and articles.
  • Design and conduct program evaluations using evidence-based practices.
  • Respond to community inquiries for information.
  • Prepare funding applications and reports.
  • Prepare and make public presentations on behalf of SPRC Hamilton.
  • Encourage the growth of relationships with community organizations.
  • Provide group facilitation and coordination.
  • Other duties as required to support the mission of the organization and its programs.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field (ex. social work, community development, public policy, research).
  • Knowledge of program evaluation best practices and experience conducting program evaluations and working with logic models.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with community development and community based research, particularly participatory research methods.
  • Practical experience with policy analysis and knowledge of basic statistical analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of social planning theory and techniques.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Exceptional facilitation, interviewing, and presentation skills.
  • General knowledge of Hamilton community and social services including knowledge of legislation, policies, and programs.
  • Knowledge of the housing shelter issues affecting women and non-binary people in Hamilton and the housing supports available to them.
  • High proficiency working with Microsoft Office (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Forms); virtual meeting hosting platforms; survey software; knowledge of Canva is an asset.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within structured timelines.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and administrative skills.
  • Experience working with volunteer committees, including persons with lived experience of poverty and marginalization.
  • Ability to work well with individuals and groups from diverse communities and sectors.
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular office hours when required.

Assets:

  • Credentialed Evaluator designation with the Canadian Evaluation Society.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to do computer work for long periods of time.
