Waste Management Specialist

Clean Harbors, a leading environmental services company, seeks a highly skilled Hazardous Waste Handler to join their team in Red Deer, AB. This is a customer-facing position that requires strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills.
Job SummaryThis role involves handling, segregating, packing, and inspecting hazardous waste according to Federal/Provincial/Local regulations and company policies. You will work indoors and outdoors at various locations, including plants, labs, customer sites, and assist with lab packs, household hazardous waste collections, and lab moves.
Responsibilities- Assist with lab packs within customer facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab moves.
- Prepare computer-generated packing lists, labels, manifest, and land disposal restriction notifications.
- Perform inspections of staging, accumulating, and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance.
- Inspect storage areas and drums for leaks or spills.
- Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations.
- Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance.
- Execute jobs at Clean Harbors customer locations, including fortune 500 companies.
- Prepare and approve all projects before shipment in accordance with Provincial and Federal environmental and transportation regulations.
- Conduct projects/jobs according to site-specific Provincial and Federal regulations and health and safety plans.
- Understand customer-specific disposal restrictions/special packaging requirements.
- Sample and profile new waste streams or any waste needing analytical testing.
- Ensure drum count is correct and that drum conditions are shippable in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Follow all local, state (provincial), and federal compliance regulations and rules.
- Safely operate vehicles in accordance with Federal and Provincial requirements.
- Safely observe all corporate operating guidelines and procedures.
- Observe all company environmental health and safety operating guidelines.
- A valid Class 3 Driver's License.
- Strong customer service skills.
- The ability to perform physical functions per job requirements.
- Clean-shaven for work requiring respirators.
- A strong understanding of Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
- A college degree is preferred.
- Previous experience in Environmental Services (e.g., remediation, abatement, emergency spill response, etc.).
- A competitive hourly wage of $45-$60 CAD, commensurate with experience.
