Bennett Jones is a leading Canadian business law firm with a strong presence in the market. We are currently seeking a Senior Business Development Director to join our team in Toronto.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving revenue growth in our strategic markets through the expansion of existing client relationships and new client acquisition. This will involve working closely with our Private Equity and Investment Fund teams to develop and execute business plans, as well as managing pursuit and prospect lists.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business development, with experience in a law firm or professional services environment. They will be able to develop and execute business development strategic plans and campaigns, and will have a proven track record of generating immediate credibility and collaborative relationships with senior management, lawyers, peers, and administrative staff.

The Senior Business Development Director will also be responsible for establishing and overseeing processes for the efficient and comprehensive collection of the firm's transactional experience, as well as directing the timely review and update of content that showcases our expertise in these industries and practices.

This is a hands-on role that requires a senior, confident, and experienced business development professional who possesses strategic thinking and leadership abilities, sound judgment, superior relationship development skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks concurrently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute business development strategic plans and campaigns
  • Manage pursuit and prospect lists
  • Establish and oversee processes for the efficient and comprehensive collection of the firm's transactional experience
  • Direct the timely review and update of content that showcases our expertise in these industries and practices
  • Counsel and coach lawyers to help them hone their business development skills

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience at a senior management level in business development within a law firm, professional services environment, investment firm, or significant public/private company
  • Degree in business or marketing, with an MBA, LLB/JD, Canadian Securities Course, or other relevant continuing education considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to generate immediate credibility and collaborative relationships with senior management, lawyers, peers, and administrative staff
  • Proven track record in developing, implementing, and leading client relationship and business development programs
