Nurse Practitioner

The William Osler Health System seeks a skilled Nurse Practitioner to join its team in the Stroke Unit. As a key member of the interprofessional healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient-focused care to individuals with less complex needs and predictable outcomes.
Key Accountabilities:
- Deliver safe and effective nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
- Provide professional, patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being.
- Cultivate a compassionate and caring environment that respects diversity and promotes cultural sensitivity.
- Maintain infection control and prevention measures to safeguard patient health.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, recognizing changes in patient status and consulting appropriately when necessary.
- Offer health education and thorough discharge instructions to patients and families, ensuring continuity of care in the community.
- A minimum of two years' experience in acute medicine within the last five years.
- Completion of hemisphere stroke competencies series within six months of hire.
- Possession of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale certificate within 30 days of employment.
- Experience working with geriatric patients is preferred.
- Recent experience with TPN, NG tubes, chest tubes, wound care, enteral feeds, IV therapy, blood collection, and isolation is also desirable.

Core Competencies:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and good standing.
- Sound knowledge of the nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the nursing profession.
- BCLS certification required.
- Medication Administration certificate and patient assessment course required for RPNs graduating prior to 2005.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team.
- Knowledge of patient- and family-centred care.
- Experience with patient and family health teaching.
- Leadership and facilitation skills.
- Excellent customer service, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment.
