Reporter Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Reporter to join our dynamic team at Rogers Sports & Media. As a key member of our news team, you will be responsible for sourcing, chasing, reporting, and presenting compelling news stories for both national and regional broadcasts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Generate fresh, engaging story ideas and develop them into compelling news stories
  • Respond quickly and accurately to breaking news, working under tight deadlines to file news stories
  • Edit, chase, report, and voice stories for the newscast, ensuring high-quality content
  • Interview experts, guests, and sources within the community, translating and repackaging stories as required
  • Participate in editorial meetings and contribute to the development of news content
  • Back up anchoring as required, demonstrating versatility and adaptability
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in journalism and media, with a strong track record of producing high-quality news content
  • Ability to work in a dynamic group environment, collaborating with colleagues to achieve shared goals
  • Fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese, both oral and written, with knowledge of the cultural and political landscape in BC
  • Experience writing, producing, and/or reporting broadcast news content, with a strong understanding of newsroom software
  • Field experience an asset, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Superior communication, writing, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of newsroom software
  • Degree or diploma in journalism or broadcasting (or equivalent experience)
