Reporter Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Reporter to join our dynamic team at Rogers Sports & Media. As a key member of our news team, you will be responsible for sourcing, chasing, reporting, developing, and presenting compelling news stories for both national and regional broadcasts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Generate fresh, compelling, and original story ideas
  • Respond to breaking news quickly and accurately
  • Edit, chase, report, and voice stories for the newscast
  • Work under tight deadlines to file news stories
  • Interview experts, guests, and sources within the community
  • Translate and repackage stories as required
  • Participate in editorial meetings
  • Back up anchoring as required
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in journalism and media
  • Ability to work in a dynamic group environment
  • Must be fluent in Mandarin and/or Cantonese, oral and written
  • Knowledge of the cultural and political landscape in BC
  • Experience writing, producing, and/or reporting broadcast news content
  • Field experience an asset
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Superior communication, writing, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of newsroom computer software
  • Degree or diploma in journalism or broadcasting (or equivalent experience)
  • A team-focused attitude
