About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Cook to join our culinary team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Cook, you will play a critical role in preparing and cooking food for our patients and clients.

Under the direction of the Manager and Supervisors, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and cooking food according to quantity recipes and quality standards
  • Maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation
  • Ensuring that food is prepared and presented in a way that meets the needs of our patients and clients

You will work closely with our culinary team to ensure that our food service operations are running smoothly and efficiently. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic team and make a real difference in the lives of our patients and clients.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • Minimum Grade 12 or GED
  • Food Safety Level 1 (Food Handlers) certification
  • Regular upgrading with respect to workplace safety and food safety
  • One (1) year recent cooking experience
  • Knowledge of food handling and safety practices in an institutional kitchen
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets is an asset
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, prioritization and time management skills
  • Demonstrated initiative; self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to use good judgment in making decisions
  • Ability to hold in confidence all matters pertaining to patients, employees and the business of the organization
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practice and organizational health
