Empowering excellence in claims management, Intact Financial Corporation seeks a seasoned Senior Claims Consultant to spearhead its Surety expertise. Reporting to the Surety Claims Manager, this role offers a dynamic and challenging environment where you'll lead a high-performing team of Specialty Lines Claims professionals.

As a key member of the National Surety Claims Department, you'll be instrumental in developing and implementing strategies to resolve complex claims, including large loss and major claims oversight. Your deep understanding of surety claims, combined with your passion for coaching and mentoring, will drive team success and contribute to Intact's reputation for claims handling excellence.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team in handling complex surety claims, assessing coverage, liability, and recovery of loss activities, and completing bonded obligations.
  • Maintaining relationships with Surety Underwriting and providing client support on moderately complex claims-related matters.
  • Working closely with the Manager to develop and recommend strategies for file handling and resolution, including large loss and major claims oversight.
  • Providing coaching to file handlers on complex default-related exposures.
  • Collaborating with the Management team to develop strategies for proactively managing industry trends.
  • Navigating insolvencies and dealing with Trustee/Receivers, demonstrating strong negotiating and problem-solving skills.
  • Maneuvering organizational skills in collecting documentation and setting out and documenting claim strategy and settlements within established authorization levels.
  • Managing internal and external resources, including legal counsel and consultants, to optimize expense mitigation.
  • Assisting management in driving changes and strategizing initiatives for the department, providing input into setting Best Practices and templates for claims handling.
  • Maintaining collaborative and transparent communication with stakeholders to ensure smooth relationships and deliver a second-to-none experience.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A legal degree and minimum 10 years of surety claim experience.
  • Technical and superior surety industry knowledge, including jurisprudence.
  • Management, coaching, and mentoring experience is an asset.
  • A positive attitude, adaptability to changing priorities, and ownership of work.
  • Self-starting ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with attention to detail.
  • A high level of accountability, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Flexibility with travel, as required.
