The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Chief Medical Examiner to join our team. As a key member of our Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, you will play a critical role in overseeing the provision of high-quality services to Albertans.

About the Role

The Deputy Chief Medical Examiner will assist the Chief Medical Examiner with oversight and management of all investigations conducted into unexplained natural deaths, unnatural deaths, and other deaths reportable to the Medical Examiner's Office. You will primarily serve as a Medical Examiner/Forensic Pathologist by conducting death investigations, including provision of expert testimony in court as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Chief Medical Examiner with oversight and management of all investigations
  • Conduct death investigations, including provision of expert testimony in court as needed
  • Oversee and manage the proper conduct of death investigations
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to death investigations
  • Collaborate with criminal justice partners, allied medical professionals, and families
Requirements
  • Medical doctor with Board Certification in Anatomical or General Pathology (or equivalent)
  • Additional Fellowship year of training in Forensic Pathology
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
  • Subspecialist certification in Forensic Pathology
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills
