Ontario Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Tissue Recovery Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in the surgical recovery of human eyes and other tissues.
Key Responsibilities- Perform the surgical recovery of eye tissue from deceased individuals, ensuring adherence to strict quality and safety standards.
- Package and transport tissues in accordance with regulatory requirements, utilizing aseptic techniques to maintain the integrity of the tissue.
- Assist with the recovery of human heart valves, skin, and muscle-skeletal tissues as required.
- Coordinate the tissue recovery process, collaborating with healthcare professionals to assess the medical suitability of potential tissue donors.
- Perform technical duties in support of the recovery, including medical chart review, blood draw, and physical examination of the deceased.
- Work closely with our Provincial Resource Centre and local healthcare professionals to obtain required information and support.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation, reviewing records to ensure compliance with established processes.
- Maintain and prepare equipment and supplies, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
- Assist with projects and the development of processes and documentation, contributing to the growth and improvement of our tissue program.
- Perform quality control functions related to the role, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
- University degree or college diploma in health sciences, nursing, funeral services, pathology assistant, paramedicine, biological sciences, or a recognized equivalent.
- Four years' work experience in a health sciences environment, specifically in operating room, pathology, paramedicine, funeral services, or clinical laboratory medical setting.
- Certification in eye or tissue banking, blood banking, or laboratory technology is an asset.
- Experience in organ and tissue donation, tissue recovery, and/or processing is an asset.
- A valid class G driver's license without restrictions and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
- Ability to drive long distances and work a variety of 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
- Ability to lift parcels up to 35 lbs and move patients with similar forces.
- Ability to travel throughout the assigned area and on occasion as needed across the province.
- A competitive hourly rate of $33.74 to $42.17 per hour.
- A casual contract position with a 12-month term.
