Ontario Health is seeking a highly motivated casual Organ and Tissue Donation Specialist for the Sudbury and Surrounding Region. The incumbent will report directly to the Manager, Hospital Programs.

This exciting opportunity will allow you to guide each step of the donation process, including donor identification, suitability assessment, death determination, approach and consent with families, and medical donor management to optimize organ yield for recipient transplantation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct clinical assessments, evaluations, and medical management of potential donors in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Establish collaborative approach plans with healthcare providers to enable every potential donor's family to donate lifesaving organs and tissues for transplantation.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication with the healthcare team and provide regular updates on the donation process as desired by the donor family.
  • Support the healthcare team by requesting resources for tests or procedures required to determine medical suitability.
  • Recover past medical history from multiple sources, including Health Records, Family Doctor, and previous admissions to other hospital sites, as part of the extensive assessment for exceptional distribution release of organs for transplantation.
  • Negotiate OR resources to support the donor organ recovery surgery.
  • Identify issues for follow-up and quality control and adherence to Health Canada directives, ensuring the safety of the organ and tissue supply.
  • Work a variety of shifts, including on-call shifts with travel within Sudbury and the surrounding area.
  • Perform other duties consistent with role profile, as required.

Requirements:

  • Nursing Diploma and/or Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required.
  • Minimum three (3) years critical care and/or relevant organ and tissue donation experience is an asset or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft applications.
  • Valid G driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
