Railserve Locomotive Operator Job Description

Railserve, a part of Marmon Holdings, Inc., is seeking a safety-conscious individual to operate electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives, pump liquids from tank cars, and transport freight in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate hand or ground throw switches, derails, gates, and other equipment.
  • Control movement of equipment by radio, hands, and lantern.
  • Apply and release hand brakes to secure or move equipment.
  • Handle air hoses, wheel chocks, coupling and uncoupling of rail cars.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) preferred but not required.
  • Military experience helpful.
  • Must be extremely dependable and punctual in attendance; must have reliable transportation to work every day.
  • Good communication skills; must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner.
  • Must have the ability to work well with others as part of a team in a cooperative manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to follow directions from crew leaders, assistant site leader, site leaders, regional leaders, and any other member of the Railserve management team.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move heavy weights.

Work Environment:

  • Regularly works in an outdoor environment, in various weather conditions.
  • Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic chemicals.
  • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
