Job Title: Senior Manager, Data Engineering

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager, Data Engineering to join our team at Wellington-Altus Private Wealth Inc. This is a unique opportunity to lead our data engineering efforts and drive business growth through data-driven approaches.

About the Role:

The Senior Manager, Data Engineering will be responsible for architecting data pipelines and data solutions based on industry standards and best practices. You will foster an environment that emphasizes trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive team effort. Your expertise will be essential in developing and using data systems, identifying and developing efficient ways to organize data store, and analyze data, while also paying attention to security and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Architecting data pipelines and data solutions based on industry standards and best practices.
  • Fostering a collaborative environment that encourages open communication and creative thinking.
  • Developing and using data systems to improve data-driven approaches.
  • Leading a team of data engineers to design, develop, and deliver large-scale data solutions.
  • Providing technical inputs to agile processes and project estimates for the design and development of solutions.
  • Coordinating activities and adapting schedules to priorities provided by the Manager.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
  • Familiarity with machine learning algorithms.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience with data infrastructure, deployment, and data management, with a focus in AWS cloud environment.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience managing/leading data engineering teams.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • 4+ years' experience with API integration and data ingestion from AWS environments.
  • 4+ years' experience with SFTP connection and integration from AWS environments.
  • 3+ years' experience with data decryption and encryption.
  • 7+ years' experience with multiple data engines, SQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Oracle, MySQL, DynamoDB, etc.
  • 6+ years' experience and knowledge of AWS stack such as S3, DMS, Glue, Lambda, API Gateway, SNS, CloudWatch, ETLs with 3rd party tools, etc.
  • 5+ years' demonstrable experience with one or more of SQL, R, Python, Spark.
  • Experience in building logical and physical design of data, relational/non-relational databases such as Snowflake/Redshift.
  • Experience with Kafka or AWS Kinesis handling streaming data is an asset.
  • Experience with Databricks, DBT or CI/CD tools like Git, Jenkins is an asset.
  • Knowledge of database systems static data and real time.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • GitLab for management of the code releases and deployment.
  • Demonstrate a high level of accountability, reliability, adaptability, and innovation in accomplishing day-to-day work and long-term goals.
  • Excellent attitude and commitment to providing extraordinary service.
  • An excellent attention to detail.
  • Exemplary interpersonal and influencing skills; an ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively, across multiple mediums (in-person, over the phone, and virtually).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • A high tolerance for ambiguity; highly adaptive and able to manage a large volume of competing priorities.
  • Strong critical thinking and written and verbal communication skills.
