Summary

Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our growing team. This role will focus on providing technical expertise and project management support to clients in the mining, heavy industry, and power generation sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical analyses related to water balance modeling, hydrologic and hydraulic studies, and engineering projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, potentially leading or managing them.
  • Mentor junior staff through project work and provide guidance on best practices.
  • Advise clients on mine water management strategies, including alternatives analysis and permitting support.
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to business development activities, such as conference presentations and proposal writing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with a focus on mining and mine water management.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration or eligibility for immediate registration with APEGA.
  • Proficiency in hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality methods, modeling tools, and software such as GoldSim, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XPSWMM/PCSWMM, HSPF, HydroCAD, MS Excel, or the MIKE Suite of tools.
  • Familiarity with publicly available data sets for hydrologic analyses (e.g., USGS gage data, hydrometric stations).
  • Experience advising clients on mine water management strategies and alternatives analysis.
  • Developed skills in probabilistic analysis, uncertainty analyses, and/or Monte Carlo analyses for risk assessments.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proven task or project management skills, including quality management.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD degree(s) in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Strong relationships with clients and the ability to develop new business opportunities.
  • Experience providing water resources engineering for permitting and compliance.
  • Expertise in mine closure and reclamation planning, including community involvement.
  • Advanced skills in data analysis, visualization, and presentation; hydraulic structure design; risk-informed decision making; climate change analysis; water recovery and reuse; cost-benefit assessments; and due diligence services for water management projects.
