Position: Configuration Management Specialist
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the Configuration Management system for the project/product.
- Ensure consistency of information in the configuration management system for the project/product.
- Participate in the analysis of contractual requirements for Configuration Management, prepare cost and time estimates during the bid and major project phases, and identify associated risks.
- Describe, implement, and maintain the fundamental activities within the relevant Configuration Management Plan, including Configuration Management and Planning, Configuration Identification, Configuration Control, Configuration Status Accounting, Configuration verification and audit.
- Manage the implementation of the PLM system for configuration management of the project/product, including analysis of requirements, system configuration, customization, data loading, and end-user training.
- Provide technical leadership and solve complex problems as required.
- Participate in the creation of Product Breakdown Structure (PBS).
- Establish Configuration Management (CM) baselines such as FBL, ABL, or PBL.
- Perform Functional Configuration Audit (FCA), Physical Configuration Audit (PCA), Software Configuration Audits (SCA), and software build verification on software releases.
- Ensure proper use of PLM system and end-to-end implementation of the CM practices on the assigned Project/Product, as well as coaching of the project team members on CM principles and use of PLM.
- Provide support services to resolve configuration management issues during product and project lifecycles, escalate and complete (as much as possible) corrective actions in a timely fashion.
- Responsible for maintaining consistency of information in the configuration management system for the project/product both in Country of Origin (COO) and Country of Destination (COD).
- Specify to sub-contractors and suppliers the CM requirements through Statement of Work and ensure the follow-up of compliance to those requirements.
- Liaise with other Hitachi Rail unit CM personnel involved in the project, as well as with subcontractors/suppliers regarding project CM related issues.
- Contribute to the improvement initiatives of CM procedures and tools and overall development of the discipline, coaching of peers and new tool end-users.
- Provide leadership to drive organizational change, partnering with engineering departments to provide advice and guidance for the adoption of new processes.
- May coordinate Configuration Administrators of the organization for the execution of CM system while being responsible and accountable for the consistency of the related perimeter configuration information.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in monitoring Systems, Software/Hardware development through a direct role in CM, within Engineering or transverse.
- Working experience with PLM systems (preferred Windchill/Palma).
- Extensive knowledge and experience of CM practices and principles.
- Experience with CM software and hardware and development processes.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with commercial version control and problem reporting tools.
- Railway Industry experience (or similar) with understanding of the context for the job function: complex system development.
- Knowledge of any of the following would be an asset: Microsoft Access, Visual Studio, DOORS, ClearCase/GIT, ClearQuest/JIRA, ERP (SAP).
- Good written and verbal communication skills to allow effective communication with both technical and non-technical teams.
