Mechanical Engineer

As a Mechanical Engineer at EXP, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing consulting services to clients in Atlantic Canada. With a strong focus on employee ownership, we offer flexibility and autonomy in our decision-making process.
Your Work Environment
You will be based in our Halifax office, taking advantage of our hybrid work model. Our office space has been upgraded to provide a bright, collaborative, and technologically advanced environment. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team on various projects, including those outside of Atlantic Canada.
Responsibilities
Prepare project documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
Develop mechanical building systems, such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, fire protection systems, plumbing, and drainage systems.
Create project-specific details and building sections to facilitate interference coordination between building systems.
Prepare calculations for ductwork, gas, HVAC, piping, plumbing, and drainage, incorporating them into technical drawings.
Coordinate with project team members to review equipment and ensure a complete and correct design.
Respond to internal and external communication regarding project or design status.
Create design drawings in AutoCAD and REVIT.
Conduct field investigations, including building condition assessments, field measurements, and construction inspections.
Conduct technical code and standard reviews and technical calculations to support building systems designs and reports.
Communicate with clients, project stakeholders, and multi-disciplinary team members.
Support clients during tendering and construction, including site inspections and monitoring of contractor progress.
Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years of relevant buildings and industrial experience.
Professional Engineer (licensed with Engineers Nova Scotia or eligible for immediate registration).
Background in preparation of construction documents, including specifications and cost estimates.
Solid understanding of mechanical systems design, construction, project, and budget management, and proposal preparation.
Knowledge of national building codes, ASHRAE, CSA, and NFPA standards.
REVIT/BIM proficiency is considered a strong asset.
Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
Experience with Energy modelling and energy auditing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, power generation, LEED, Green Globes, and Zero Carbon Building Standard are considered an asset.
