Mainline Construction is seeking an experienced Mainline Hoe Operator to join our team. Reporting to the Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the construction hoe and other heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the hoe and other heavy equipment in a safe and controlled manner, adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent accidents.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, clean, lubricate, and refill as necessary to maintain equipment in good working condition.
  • Work collaboratively with ground personnel to excavate and install water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipe on line and grade.
  • Ensure trenches are excavated to the correct depth and grade, meeting company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for the placement of water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation, following established procedures and guidelines.
  • Follow directions from the ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement, and grading to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • Cut grade with minimal time spent on excavating to maintain production schedules.
  • Conduct trench work that meets Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements, prioritizing worker safety and well-being.
  • Operate the hoe on public roadways, maintaining awareness of surroundings and adhering to traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ensure a thorough understanding of ground disturbance issues and implement safe work procedures to mitigate risks.
  • Be aware of proper rigging of pipes, manhole barrels, etc., and ensure safe work procedures are followed during the lowering of materials into the excavation.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with experience in related construction activities.
  • Class 5 license, clean abstract.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in the construction industry.
  • 2-3 years' experience operating a hoe is required.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of hoes and other heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of water, storm, and sanitary sewer installation.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronics.
