Mainline Construction Ltd. is in search of a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator specializing in excavation. Reporting directly to the Foreman, the Excavator Operator is tasked with the safe and efficient management of excavation machinery while performing assigned duties to ensure that all work meets contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate the excavator and other heavy machinery.
  • Conduct daily maintenance and safety inspections on equipment.
  • Perform pre-operational checks, including cleaning, lubricating, and refilling machinery as needed.
  • Collaborate with ground personnel during the excavation and installation of pipeline systems.
  • Ensure trenches are excavated to the correct depth and grade.
  • Responsible for the placement of water, storm, and sanitary sewer pipes within the excavation.
  • Follow ground crew instructions regarding craning, gravel placement, and grading.
  • Minimize excavation time to maintain production schedules.
  • Execute trench work in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) standards.
  • Operate machinery on public roadways while maintaining situational awareness.
  • Understand the implications of ground disturbance.
  • Ensure proper rigging of pipes and manhole barrels, adhering to safe work practices during material placement.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficient knowledge of excavators and heavy machinery.
  • Familiarity with the installation of water, storm, and sanitary sewer systems.
  • Understanding of computerized controls and electronic systems.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, with relevant construction experience.
  • A Class 5 license with a clean driving record.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in the construction sector.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience operating an excavator.
  • The ability to work effectively in challenging weather conditions.
