About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Immunology Research Scientist to join our team at the University of Toronto, Department of Immunology in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine.

Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate will be appointed as a Research Associate (Limited Term) on a one-year term with a competitive salary ranging from $52,574 to $98,576 per annum, plus benefits.

Job Description

This position involves conducting immunological analysis, infection biology, executing ex vivo and in vitro cell culture studies. The incumbent must have experience with animal models of colitis, metabolic disease, viral/bacterial infections, and immunophenotyping of gut barrier and adipose tissue. Additionally, they will design, plan, and execute research projects, supervise other research staff/trainees, work with multi-disciplinary teams, and present research findings to PIs and other members of the research team.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting experiments in animal models of intestinal inflammation, intestinal infection (bacteria and viruses), and metabolic dysfunction;
  • Designing, planning, and executing research projects;
  • Supervising other research staff/trainees;
  • Working with multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional teams;
  • Presenting research findings to PIs and other members of the research team;
  • Conducting data analysis and reporting;
  • Liaising with collaborators and assisting in the compilation, analysis, and reporting of research findings;
Required Skills and Qualifications

The applicant should have a PhD in a relevant scientific field, with at least 4-5 years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent, and a strong publication record. They should also have experience with techniques used in microbiology, mucosal immunology, cell and molecular biology, microbiome analyses, in vitro, and in vivo work.

Beyond These Responsibilities

The individual is expected to participate in the preparation of grant applications, support the overall research and teaching missions of the lab, and perform research with a high degree of independence. They will design, direct, execute, analyze, and present novel investigative studies that build on and/or take advantage of the resources and expertise within the lab and their academic expertise.
