Laboratory Team Lead, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre

We are seeking a visionary Laboratory Manager to lead our Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for fostering a positive atmosphere that supports teamwork, collaboration, shared learning, and staff development, while ensuring excellence in the provision of services and quality patient care.
About UsThe Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is a comprehensive program providing 2.5 million tests per annum in support of all clinical programs and clinical trials. Our Laboratory is an accredited program as recognized by Accreditation Canada Diagnostics and has received and maintained ISO15189 Accreditation Plus designation.
Duties and Responsibilities- Implement and maintain Human Resources systems and practices to build an effective team and foster a positive work environment within the department.
- Plan Human Resources requirements, developmental needs, and staff selection to provide maximum team effectiveness and departmental service.
- Develop and approve staff schedules based on patient care needs.
- Ensure a contingency plan for staff replacement is prepared, maintained, and communicated to prevent major impacts on client service.
- Encourage and facilitate staff involvement in decision-making, equipment purchases, and changes in practices/procedures.
- Facilitate timely and ongoing communication strategies, including staff meetings, bulletin boards, and electronic communication.
- Develop orientation and training plans for new staff.
- Recognize staff efforts and achievements.
- Conduct performance appraisals, disciplinary, and attendance reviews.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Certification in Medical Laboratory Technology or Medical Radiation Technology from a recognized post-secondary institute preferred;
- Baccalaureate preparation in a health-related field essential; and Master's level preferred, e.g., MPA, MBA, MHA, M.Sc., MA in Leadership;
- Three to five years related clinical and/or management experience required;
- Active CMLTO or CMRITO registration preferred;
- Quality Manager, Quality Auditor, or Management System Certification by a recognized institute preferred;
- Completion of Canadian Healthcare Association (CHA) management course(s) or equivalent would be an asset;
- Membership and participation in a relevant professional organization;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario Laboratory Accreditation program required;
- Demonstrated knowledge of current technologies within the field;
- Excellent human resources management and leadership skills;
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and professionally with staff, physicians, volunteers, patient families, and visitors;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects at a time in a cost-effective manner;
- Ability to perform duties independently and as a team member, with high degree of motivation and independent judgment;
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent attendance and schedule flexibility;
- Excellent conflict resolution and change management skills;
- Demonstrated strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability;
- Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet;
- Demonstrated proficiency with keyboarding, Laboratory Information Systems (Meditech preferred), MS Office, internet use, and other computer software;
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and performing mandatory reviews.
