Laboratory Technologist Leadership Position

The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is seeking a skilled Laboratory Technologist to fill a Charge position in our medical laboratory team. This leadership role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate and guide a team.
Job DescriptionIn this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional medical laboratory technology expertise and leadership, supporting the health centre's strategic plan and mission. Your duties will include:
- Participating in technical, professional, and quality in-services and education
- Leading staff and patient experience and feedback initiatives, professional development, teaching/educational activities, safety and quality improvement programs
- Reading and confirming understanding of laboratory policies and procedures through document control software
- Forwarding suggestions for policy and procedure improvement or corrections required to, and working with, the appropriate stakeholder(s)
- Performing laboratory procedures for specific discipline(s) and functions and ensuring the completion of assigned workload
- Operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work area; preparing written and electronic reports required to document procedures and test results
You will also be expected to adhere to hospital and departmental mission and vision statements while maintaining patient confidentiality, perform cross-functional duties as assigned, and complete other related tasks consistent with the job classification.
RequirementsTo succeed in this role, you must have:
- A minimum of 5 years' recent laboratory experience in Transfusion preferred
- Demonstrated ability to develop skill and knowledge in required areas of the laboratory
- Experience with current instrumentation/automation in respective area an asset
- General knowledge of all areas of the laboratory preferred
- Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) in areas of responsibility required
This role requires:
- Demonstrated proficiency with keyboarding, Laboratory Information Systems (Meditech preferred), MS Office, internet use, and other computer software
- Demonstrated professionalism, interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively with staff, physicians, volunteers, patient families, and visitors
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong teaching skills required
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks at a time in a cost-effective manner
The estimated annual salary for this position is $85,000-$110,000 CAD, based on location and industry standards. Benefits and other compensation details will be discussed during the hiring process.
