Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Metal Worker to join our team at The University of British Columbia. As a Metal Worker, you will be responsible for performing skilled sheet metal work in the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of sheet metal fixtures for heating, ventilation, roofing, windows, doors, and other related installations throughout the University.
Key Responsibilities:
* Fabricate eave troughs, down pipes, metal windows, metal frameworks, metal clad doors, counter tops, windows, fume hoods, and other galvanized iron, aluminum, and stainless-steel fixtures
* Conduct inspection tests on various machinery and equipment as it relates to sheet metal repair and maintenance
* Diagnose defects and carry out repairs or recommend solutions to correct problems to supervisory staff
* Assemble parts and join them by welding, soldering, brazing, bolting, riveting, screwing, and other related methods
* Adhere to all safety standards, practices, procedures, and ensure protective clothing is worn as required
* Communicate with customers as required to ensure the efficient delivery of service
* Respond to trouble calls and emergencies during normal working hours and after working hours
* Keep current with preventative maintenance concepts, technology, and theory and maintain familiarity with manufacturer and regulatory maintenance requirements
Requirements:
* A trade certification to journeyperson level as a Sheet Metal Worker
* A valid BC driver's license
* A minimum five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own
* Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Working Environment:
This position reports to the People & Process Manager, Mech Systems & HVAC Trades. The Metal Worker works collaboratively with other Metal Workers as well as employees in various trade classifications within the department of UBC Building Operations.
