Salary: $115,000 - $127,000 per year

Job Description:

The Steel Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our steel department. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for managing trades workers, reporting to the Manager Steel, and working closely with operations, project managers, and chargehands to plan, oversee, and execute production activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure work progression in accordance with safety, cost, quality, and schedules
  • Implement and enforce Seaspan Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality processes on the shop floor
  • Report internally on work process and status
  • Escalate technical trade issues with Management and implement solutions as identified
  • Responsible for interpreting work order specifications and manufacturing information
  • Assist in determining work plans, sequences, and schedules
  • Deliver production in accordance with Company and customer quality standards
  • Partner with Management to ensure trade employees have the skills, equipment, training, and certifications required
  • Ensure work crews minimize waste expense and unnecessary delays
  • Work with Management to eliminate inefficient work practices
  • Allocate trades employees in accordance with schedule and priorities
  • Responsible for discipline, including performance and attendance management
  • Follow and enforce the collective agreement and management practices
  • Timekeeping administration and approval of direct and indirect reports

Requirements:

  • Red Seal Welder (preferred) or Metal Fabricator
  • Minimum 5 years of related trades work experience outside of any trade's apprenticeship or educational program
  • A minimum of an additional 3 years of previous supervisory experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Proficient knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy manufacturing
  • Strong written, verbal, and electronic communication skills
  • Time management and organization skills with a proven dedication to follow-up and follow-through
  • Ability to empower others, lead change, have difficult conversations, and coordinate discipline
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills to resolve disagreements quickly and successfully
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with others towards a shared goal
  • Dedication to safety and quality, with experience in the application of behavioral based safety
  • Appreciation and understanding of the value of diversity within a team
  • Proficiency with MS Office products and web-based applications
