Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Child, Youth and Family Counsellor to join our team in the West Kootenay region. This exciting opportunity combines two roles: a part-time permanent position with the Permanency Support Program and a part-time temporary position with the Kootenay Wrap-Around Support (K-Wrap) Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with parents, community professionals, and caregivers to support family-centered care.
  • Help caregivers understand their child's strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences, and make recommendations to improve interactions and relationships.
  • Create or increase natural support networks for children and youth in their communities.
  • Apply a trauma-informed practice lens and attachment theory to increase caregiver knowledge and understanding of child dynamics.
  • Improve caregiver-child interactions to decrease conflict and promote positive relationships.
  • Act as a resource to families and the community on adoptive and out-of-care support, and child-related issues.
  • Facilitate connections with relevant community services and address barriers to accessing supports.
  • Model collaborative working relationships with caregivers, child, and youth care teams.
  • Participate in integrated case management and planning meetings.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A degree in a relevant discipline (BSW/BA-Child and Youth Care/BA – Psychology) and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
  • Previous employment in a child, youth, or family counselling position.
  • Experience in/knowledge of the Extended Family Program and/or out-of-care kinship placements.
  • The ability to establish trusting relationships with children, youth, and families.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple concurrent projects and tasks.
Compensation and Benefits

This part-time permanent position offers a competitive salary of $25 per hour, based on experience and education. Upon successful completion of a trial period, this position is eligible for a full benefit package, including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions.
