Principal, Building Science Specialist

TEEMA is a beacon for building science leadership, focused on delivering scalable climate resilient solutions for clients and future generations. We are seeking a Principal, Building Science Specialist to join our Canada West Leadership Team.

About the Role

The Building Science Specialist is a technical leader within our team, involving the application of building science fundamentals to a wide range of buildings. You will focus on leading building enclosure consulting work from the investigation of building enclosure performance problems through to design and construction, with a primary focus on existing buildings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the team as project principal throughout all investigation, design and construction stages of existing building projects
  • Participate as part of the team for early-stage services, including strategic advice for the integration of energy, building enclosure, heating/cooling and ventilation performance objectives
  • Provide expertise and guidance, input, or internal peer review for projects
  • Undertake project specific business development activities and proposal preparation
  • Help to ensure delivery of services and products to meet company quality standards including development of internal processes and technical standards/checklists
  • Assist with the development and delivery of in-house and client education and training programs
  • Provide technical leadership including sharing knowledge on the company's internal technical forums
  • Network within the building enclosure community, including authoring papers and speaking engagements at various industry events and seminars
Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or Architecture, and ~15+ years of experience in building science and engineering, with knowledge of architecture and construction with a focus on building enclosure. You should have ~ field experience addressing site conditions and managing construction process and contract issues, as well as successful relationship building experience particularly with developers, architects, building owners and other project team members.

We are seeking a candidate with proven success leading projects involving large and small buildings, excellent technical knowledge of building science, building enclosure design, and construction processes, and the ability to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings, and assess conditions for multiple components.

You should have analytical problem solving skills and strong investigative aptitude, including ability to troubleshoot and diagnose building performance issues, as well as fast learner with the ability to develop technical and interpersonal skills.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent ability to communicate complex technical information to staff, clients, and trades, and excellent ability to shift focus between changing priorities.

Solid project management skills and the ability to manage performance of others are also essential.
