Job Description

TEEMA is seeking a highly skilled Principal, Building Science Specialist to join our Canada West Leadership Team. As a technical leader, you will be responsible for leading building enclosure consulting work from investigation to design and construction, with a primary focus on existing buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the team as project principal throughout all investigation, design, and construction stages of existing building projects
  • Participate as part of the team for early-stage services, including strategic advice for the integration of energy, building enclosure, heating/cooling, and ventilation performance objectives
  • Provide expertise and guidance, input, or internal peer review for projects
  • Undertake project-specific business development activities and proposal preparation
  • Help ensure delivery of services and products to meet company quality standards, including development of internal processes and technical standards/checklists
  • Assist with the development and delivery of in-house and client education and training programs
  • Provide technical leadership, including sharing knowledge on the company's internal technical forums
  • Network within the building enclosure community, including authoring papers and speaking engagements at various industry events and seminars

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or Architecture
  • ~15+ years of experience in building science and engineering, with knowledge of architecture and construction with a focus on building enclosure
  • ~Field experience addressing site conditions and managing construction process and contract issues
  • ~Successful relationship-building experience, particularly with developers, architects, building owners, and other project team members
  • ~Proven success leading projects involving large and small buildings
  • ~Excellent technical knowledge of building science, building enclosure design, and construction processes
  • ~Ability to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings, and assess conditions for multiple components
  • ~Analytical problem-solving skills and strong investigative aptitude, including ability to troubleshoot and diagnose building performance issues
  • ~Fast learner with the ability to develop technical and interpersonal skills
  • ~Excellent ability to communicate complex technical information to staff, clients, and trades
  • ~Excellent ability to shift focus between changing priorities
  • ~Solid project management skills and the ability to manage performance of others
