Overview:

TEEMA is a leader in building science, delivering scalable climate resilient solutions for clients and future generations. We are seeking a Principal, Building Science Specialist to join our Canada West Leadership Team. As a technical leader, you will apply building science fundamentals to a wide range of buildings, focusing on leading building enclosure consulting work from investigation to design and construction. You will work with others to develop and grow our services in British Columbia, integrating a climate resilience paradigm into our traditional building science solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop client relationships
  • Lead the team as project principal throughout all investigation, design and construction stages of existing building projects
  • Participate in early-stage services, including strategic advice for the integration of energy, building enclosure, heating/cooling and ventilation performance objectives
  • Develop and lead the continual development of our services and approach to best address the needs of our clients and the industry
  • Provide expertise and guidance, input, or internal peer review for projects
  • Undertake project specific business development activities and proposal preparation
  • Provide mentorship to staff and support their career development plans
  • Ensure delivery of services and products to meet company quality standards, including development of internal processes and technical standards/checklists
  • Assist with the development and delivery of in-house and client education and training programs
  • Provide technical leadership, sharing knowledge on our internal technical forums
  • Network within the building enclosure community, including authoring papers and speaking engagements at various industry events and seminars

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or Architecture
  • 15+ years of experience in building science and engineering, with knowledge of architecture and construction with a focus on building enclosure
  • Field experience addressing site conditions and managing construction process and contract issues
  • Demonstrated business development experience
  • Successful relationship building experience, particularly with developers, architects, building owners and other project team members
  • Proven success leading projects involving large and small buildings
  • Excellent technical knowledge of building science, building enclosure design, and construction processes
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with clients, staff, and consultants
  • Ability to gather and diagnose information, interpret data and drawings, and assess conditions for multiple components
  • Analytical problem solving skills and strong investigative aptitude, including ability to troubleshoot and diagnose building performance issues
  • Proven team player who fosters teamwork and cooperation
  • Fast learner with the ability to develop technical and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent ability to communicate complex technical information to staff, clients, and trades
  • Excellent ability to shift focus between changing priorities
  • Solid project management skills and the ability to manage performance of others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Strong work ethic, eager to assume responsibility quickly
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong desire and potential to be a leader in the industry

Salary/Rate Range: $150,000 – $180,000
