Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President of Business Development to join our client, a Toronto-based private equity firm. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying private equity investment opportunities for new platform investments and add-on acquisitions for their portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and Execute a Targeted Business Development Plan: Utilize and update the existing database and CRM system to build a pipeline of opportunities.
  2. Establish and Build a Strong Network: Develop relationships with advisors focused on the private equity sector, primarily in Canada and the US.
  3. Attend Conferences and Industry Events: Identify investment target companies and stay up-to-date on trends and opportunities in the small to mid-cap private equity market across Canada.
  4. Subject Matter Expertise: Develop in-depth knowledge of the private equity market and its trends.
  5. Integral Member of the Investment Team: Work closely with senior-level investment team members and build strong relationships with portfolio executive teams.
  6. Client and Advisor Relationships: Develop a positive, knowledgeable, and trusted relationship with clients and advisors.
  7. Visibility in the Canadian Private Equity Community: Establish a strong presence in the Canadian private equity community.
  8. Emotional Intelligence and Business Acumen: Demonstrate high emotional intelligence and business acumen in building relationships and representing the firm in the market.
Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in commerce or business, with a CPA or MBA as an asset.
  2. Experience: 5+ years of experience in mid-market diversified investment banking, financial sponsors leverage finance, or strategic consulting.
  3. Private Equity Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the private equity world and its trends.
  4. Emotional Intelligence and Maturity: High emotional intelligence and maturity, with excellent communication and presentation skills.
  5. Business Development Skills: Highly organized, willing to hustle, and business development-minded, with a strong desire to be a key contributor to the growth of a Canadian private equity firm.
  6. Professional Presentation and Communication Skills: Exceptional professional presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  7. Eligibility to Work in Canada: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and familiar with the Canadian business community.
