Job Title: Staff Solicitor

Legal Aid Ontario is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Solicitor to join our team in the Clinic Resource Office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and opinions, creating and maintaining publications, and providing legal services in support of various clinic system and SLSO activities.

About the Role

This is a contract position for 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will be a Lawyer (Class L1 licence) member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario, with significant recent experience practicing and demonstrated expertise in one or more major areas of clinic law.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct legal research and writing, primarily focused on EI, CPP, and OAS law and related areas
  • Develop and maintain a range of publications, including decision summaries, short website postings, and comprehensive research memoranda
  • Provide legal services in support of various clinic system and SLSO activities
  • Collaborate with the Director, Clinic Resource Office, and other team members to achieve project goals
Requirements
  • Lawyer (Class L1 licence) member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
  • Significant recent experience practicing and demonstrated expertise in one or more major areas of clinic law
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced ability with Microsoft Word
  • Able to work with shifting priorities in a fast-paced work environment
