Legal Aid Ontario is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Solicitor to join our team in the Clinic Resource Office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and opinions, creating and maintaining publications, and providing legal services in support of various clinic system and SLSO activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct legal research and writing, primarily focused on EI, CPP, and OAS law and related areas.
  • Develop and maintain a range of publications, including decision summaries, short website postings, and comprehensive research memoranda.
  • Participate in other project work in accordance with interests and skills.
Requirements:
  • Lawyer (Class L1 licence) member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Significant recent experience practicing, and demonstrated expertise in, one or more major areas of clinic law (e.g. social assistance, housing, CPP, EI).
  • Demonstrated strong interest in clinic law issues.
  • Demonstrated superior legal research skills with traditional and electronic research sources.
  • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated advanced ability with Microsoft Word.
  • Able to work with shifting priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using the CRO website and practice resources.
  • Experience practicing in a variety of clinic law areas (e.g. housing, social assistance, CPP, EI, human rights & the Charter).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Superior knowledge of administrative law and procedure.
  • Court litigation experience.
  • Experience delivering legal training presentations.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write French.
